Craters Mountain Bike Park

Exploring Craters Mountain Bike Park

For a number of reasons, we are really fortunate to be living in Taupō right now. One of those reasons is having access to Craters Mountain Bike Park. Built mostly by volunteers over the past 20 years, the park has over 60 trails from Grade 2-5 making it perfect for riders of all levels. Using the well marked network of linked trails, you can ride for a few hours or take a full day to explore the park.

The trails are easily accessed via a number of parking areas just north of Taupō town centre, or in our case, a short ride down the road from our front door – how lucky are we!

Since moving to Taupō in May this year, we’ve visited the park a number of times, each time exploring a little further. At this rate it’s going to take us several months to explore all of the tracks (although maybe not the Grade 5 ones) but we’re not complaining.

Note that while Craters MTB Park is open to the public, you do need a pass to ride there, either an annual membership if you ride regularly, or you can get a 7 day visitor pass. You can find out more here.
